Super Super Bowl Eats

$55 million is expected to be spent on food for The Big Game. After spending an estimated ten million man-hours (give or take a couple of seconds) preparing all that grub, we are expected to consume the lot within approximately fifteen minutes, well before the first touchdown is scored.
And speaking of rampant consumption, Super Bowl Sunday marks the day on which Americans chow the second-greatest amount of food. Top dog here is Thanksgiving.
Hosting a party on Sunday? You're not alone. According to Hallmark Cards, Inc., The Super Bowl represents the No. 1 at-home party event of the year. Believe it or not, it's even bigger than New Year's Eve. (One wonders when we might see cards celebrating the event not to mention Super Bowl Monday sympathy editions for the losing team's fans.) Hallmark also figures the average number of people attending a Super Shindig to be 17 so, if you are calculating how much food to have on hand, hosts should probably buy ... a lot.

  • It is estimated that Americans will eat 90 million pounds of chicken wings, which breaks down to 450 million individual wings!
  • The most chicken wings will be consumed in the states of Utah and Louisiana
  • The Haas Avocado Board says 49.5 million pounds of avocados will be downed on Super Bowl Sunday, making it the largest avocado eating day of the year.
  • The most potato chips will be consumed in the states of New Mexico and Virginia

While crust is baking, in large bowl beat 1 eight ounce package of cream cheese, 1/2 cup white sugar and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. Spread mix on the cooled crust.
Arrange your favorite fruit topping on top and chill until served. We are partial to strawberries, raspberries, pineapple, kiwi and blueberries. You can whatever fruit you wish.  Use the fruit to make pictures or spell sayings such as our \"Go Colts\" in blueberries.
